Keep a growing record

A calendar is a starting point. Record what you planted and what actually happened, then use that evidence to improve next season’s plan.

Complete one sheet per crop and sowing. These notes stay in this page until you print or download them; they are not sent to Safe to Plant or saved automatically. Closing or refreshing the page clears them.

Make the record useful next season

  1. Keep the variety and planting material. A seed sowing, a transplant and a dormant bulb have different starting points.
  2. Record observations, including failures. Note the date and conditions, rather than attributing every success or failure to the planting window.
  3. Compare like with like. A sunny raised bed and a shaded pot may behave differently in the same town. Keep units with measurements.
  4. Repeat before drawing a broad conclusion. One season is local experience, not proof that a rule works every year. Compare it with the historical method and its limits.

Use evidence to improve the calendar

If the site’s dates conflict with local evidence, use the correction link on the relevant crop-and-town page. Include its URL and a short description of the discrepancy. You can share a relevant excerpt of your record voluntarily; do not include a home address or information you do not want to send.
